So many high achievers sadly develop a mental health issue throughout their lifetime. Having suffered with depression since my bachelors degree, I thought there was no escape. Trying to find comfort in family members who don’t suffer with the disorder was destroying. I was told I should just ‘manage my time better’ or ‘stop complaining and just get on with it’. Thankfully I joined QMBL Bhangra Society in my third year of uni and I can’t even begin to describe how much it helped relieve my negative emotions. Having such a welcoming bhangra team really boosted my confidence and made me feel valued. I was exposed to more of my culture and identify too. The dance itself helped me through the last hurdle of the degree. Bhangra is an extremely uplifting dance where you have to smile all the time. That combined with the high energy music meant I could temporarily forget about all my worries. Thank you QMBL Bhangra Society for making me feel alive again.
